Eugene being Eugene, it’s a wonder Autzen Stadium ever got built.
Hayward Field by the early ’60s was a wreck. The oldest stadium in the conference that hadn’t been significantly rebuilt at some point, it was cramped, uncomfortable, and small. About the only thing you could say good about it was that it was in Eugene, and most of the seats were covered.
• Todd Kaufmann at National Football Authority says that Oregon's Chip Kelly has the staying power of a career coach.
In two seasons as the head coach, Kelly has taken this program to back-to-back BCS bowl games, the Rose Bowl and the BCS National Championship.
"Kelly could be the biggest sleeper coach in FBS football," said Fox Sports' Lisa Horne. "You have to understand where Oregon football was and where it is now.
• Dale Newton has another recruit with eyes on Oregon as he profiles Jared Afalava.
Afalava is a 6-2, 220-lb. aggressive, hard-hitting outside linebacker from football hotbed Bingham High of South Jordan, Utah, the 13-0 5A State Champions. He was 1st team All-State and junior MVP last season, recording 87 tackles, 5 interceptions and one sack.
